Vardan (Vartan) Ishkhanovich Militosyan ( armenian Վարդան Միլիտոայան ; July 8, 1950 , Leninakan - April 29, 2015 , Gyumri ) - Soviet weightlifter , two-time European champion (1976, 1978), two-time World Championship medalist (1976, 1978), Olympic Games medalist (1976), four-time world record holder in the clean and jerk . Honored Master of Sports of the USSR (1976).

Biography
Born July 8 [2] 1950 in Leninakan (now Gyumri ). He began weightlifting in 1964 . Since 1972 he trained under the leadership of Hakob Farajyan . From 1975 to 1979 he was a member of the USSR national team, twice became the European champion, was the silver medalist of the Montreal Olympic Games and the Gettysburg World Championship . Most successfully performed in the clean and jerk. In this type of exercise, he set world records four times.
In 1980, he completed his sports career and switched to coaching. Coached his nephew, Olympic champion Israel Militosyan [3] .
