Vogar ( Isl. Vogar , in the lane. A small bay ) is a community and city in Iceland .
Geography
The Vogar community lies in the southwestern part of Iceland, in the Sudurnes region , in the north of the Reykjanes peninsula. The community area is 7.42 km². The population of the community is 1,225 people (as of December 1, 2007 , of which 1,131 live in the city of Vogar. The population density is 165 people / km².
Vogar city is located 30 kilometers from the capital Reykjavik . To the west of Vogara is the city of Nyardvik , belonging to the Reykjanesber community. Around the city are lava fields. The main occupation of the inhabitants of Vogar for centuries was fishing, which is currently falling into decay. The number of residents is gradually increasing due to leaving here from the overpopulated metropolitan area.
Tradition
In front of the local school, as a monument, there is a stone weighing 450 kilograms, which, according to legend, was carried out by the local peasant Yohn Danielsson from his field in the 19th century .
