Geography
Shelekhovsky District is located in the southern part of the Irkutsk Region, 4.2 km south-west of the city of Irkutsk (the distance between the borders of municipalities) and approximately 7 km north-west of the lake. Baikal.
The territory of Shelekhovsky district is bordered by:
in the north with the Angarsk region ;
in the northeast and east with the Irkutsk region ;
in the south with Slyudyansky district ;
in the west with Usolsky district .
The area of Shelekhovsky district is 202 thousand hectares, in the Irkutsk region only Angarsk district has a smaller area.
History
The district was formed in 1993, becoming one of the youngest administrative-territorial units in the region. [five]

Economy
The industry of the region is represented by the following companies:
- metallurgical production: Irkutsk Aluminum Plant , ZAO Silicon, LLC SUAL-PM;
- manufacture of electrical machinery and equipment: OAO Irkutskkabel ;
- manufacture of finished metal products: Shelekhovsky RMZ OJSC;
- production of other non-metallic mineral products: OJSC East-Siberian Reinforced Concrete Plant;
- Russian-Swiss wood processing plant "Royal Wood" in the village. Big Meadow.
Transportation
The Shelekhovsky district from the north-east to the south-west is crossed by the Trans-Siberian railway and the federal highway M55 “Baikal” , called the Kultuk tract .
Culture
Shelekhov is a modern cultural city, having a well-developed network of cultural institutions, possessing unique creative teams, won recognition not only in the Irkutsk region, but also far beyond its borders. The cultural space of the city of Shelekhov includes 30 cultural institutions, 39 creative teams and 68 club formations, 9 departmental cultural institutions. On the territory of the city of Shelekhov, a network of institutions providing various cultural services to the population operates: MU CDC Ochag, structural unit of MU GSK Urban Children's Park, Ш Shelehovskaya Inter-settlement Centralized Library MUK, MUK Urban Museum G.I. Shelekhova ", DK" Metallurg ", LLC" Metelitsa - Baikal ", cinema" Youth ", MOUK DOD" Children's Art School. V.I. Surikov.
