Early years

Fredrick Martin McMurray was born on August 30, 1908 in the northeast of Illinois in the family of violinist Frederick McMurray and his wife, Maleta Martin. In 1911, his parents divorced, and his mother took little Fred to Wisconsin , in her hometown of Beaver Dam . Visiting Beaver Dam High School , Fred soon became a sports star, as he played excellent football , baseball and basketball . Thanks to his athletic abilities, he received a scholarship at Carroll College in Waukesh . At college, McMurray began to devote more time to music and played the saxophone in several local groups at once. Even at school, he mastered playing the piano, guitar and saxophone. But once he was caught on the roof of the college when he played poker with his comrades and was expelled from the institution. For more than a year, Fred played in the Chicago Orchestra. Then he joined the orchestra in Hollywood , where he collaborated with Gus Arnheim for some time, and even recorded his song “If I Had A Talking Picture Of You”. In 1929 he made his film debut in the extras of the film “Girls Gone Wild”.

The debut of Fred McMurray in the movie took place in 1929 in the drama Girls Gone Wild. After the death of his wife in 1953, McMurray was left alone with two children. By chance, he met the actress June Haver , who returned briefly to Hollywood , who vowed to return to the monastery as soon as he could.
