The Young Strait [1] [2] [3] [4] (Yungsturm) [1] - a strait in the Kara Sea that separates the island of Pioneer from the island of Komsomolets ( Severnaya Zemlya ) [1] . Connects the bay of Kovalevskaya and the strait of the Red Army .

The length is about 60 km. Width from 4 to 24 km. Depth up to 220 m. The coast is steep, mountainous, covered with glaciers (Otdelny Glaciers, Pioneer). It is covered with ice for most of the year.
In the strait are the islands of Poputny, Kaplya, Buyan and Rotary. On the coast stand out Cape Festival and Open (Komsomolets Island), Expectations and Hilly (Pioneer Island). The river Ilistaya et al. Flows into the strait. [2] [3] [4]
It was originally named Jungsturm in 1932 by the crew of the icebreaker " Sadko " in honor of German Communist youth ( Red Jungsturm ), later the name was changed to Young [5] [6] [7] [8] .
The strait is located in the water area of the Krasnoyarsk Territory .
