The Cathedral of the Archangel Michael and other celestial forces of the ethereal is a feast of the Orthodox Church in honor of the revered celestial ethereal forces led by Archangel Michael . The celebration takes place on November 21 ( November 8 according to the Julian calendar ).

The establishment of the holiday is associated with the decision of the Laodicean Council , which met several years before the First Ecumenical Council and condemned it as heretical worship of the angels as creators and rulers of the world [1] .

The choice of the day of celebration is due to the following [1] :

  • in the era of the establishment of the holiday, November was the ninth month of the year [2] , and the choice of this month symbolizes the nine ranks of the angels;
  • the eighth day of the month serves as an indication of the " day of Osmoy " - the Council of all the powers of heaven on the day of the Last Judgment .

According to the Messinian Typicon (1131) , the holiday paramery is a fragment of the book of Joshua about the appearance of the archangel Michael ( Jav. 5: 13-15 ) [3] .
