History of Road Troops
Even in ancient campaigns, troops were forced to carry out road works, build bridges and build crossings . In preparation for the campaign to Novgorod in 1014, Prince Vladimir Svyatoslavovich ordered "to drag the way and bridge bridges." For this purpose, prefabricated detachments , which included artisans for road construction and bridge work, were specially prepared and sent forward.
In the armed forces of other states, road troops were born before the First World War and during the war years (1914-1918) gained combat experience.
Before the start of World War II, in a number of capitalist states it was represented mainly by units in the engineering troops .
