Biography
Information about his life is extremely scarce. According to Liber Pontificalis, Aniket was a Syrian . It is only known that during his reign in Rome there was an outstanding bishop of Smyrna ( Asia Minor ) Polycarpus (d. C. 163 ) to coordinate with the Roman church disciplinary questions regarding the establishment of the date of the celebration of Easter , as well as the position of church hierarchs regarding to the emerging and growing new religious movements that threaten Christianity to split.
It was mainly about the views of the Phrygian peasant Montand and his students, who propagated “prophetic” Christianity, in which the emphasis was on the individual actions of the Holy Spirit in religious experiences, as well as on the activities of Marcion , a wealthy merchant from Sinop (on the Black Sea), arguing that Christianity should reject the Old Testament and develop doctrine solely in the spirit of the epistles of the Apostle Paul . Marcion arrived in Rome and donated a significant amount (200,000 sisters ) and part of his library to the Christian community. The Council of Elders (sources do not mention the role of the Roman bishop) rejected the teachings of Marcion, returned the money to him, but left the library. Marcion founded his own community in Rome, which found followers in the eastern and western provinces of the empire.
