The importance of the ministry
The position of Minister of the Interior has always been attractive in every government in the history of Israel, and the reason for this is that the Minister of the Interior has many opportunities and great strength, especially in building the image of the state of Israel.
One of the main functions of the Israeli Ministry of the Interior is to register a person, that is, to determine the criteria for the possibility of immigrating to Israel (the right to return) and decide who can become a citizen of the country by law. The ministry also manages the status of permanent residents and issues visas to foreign workers. Because of this, the parties, whose platforms have a strong connection with religion and statehood (for example, Shas , Israel ba-Aliya , Shinui ), see the possession of the Ministry of the Interior as their main goal and an excellent weapon to help realize their campaign promises.
Over the past few years, the Ministry of the Interior has often come under the scourge of criticism for arbitrary policies regarding foreign workers and those who have accepted Jewry. Ministry officials are often accused of ignoring interactions with other state institutions and refusing to register those who have accepted Jewishness.
In addition, the Ministry of the Interior controls all local councils and because of this, it has the ability to manage the employment of a large number of workers. Some of the ministers of internal affairs took advantage of this in order to appoint cadres devoted to their own party to responsible posts and provide jobs for the party center.
