Belarusfilm

Belarusfilm is the national film studio of Belarus.

After the decision of the Government of the Byelorussian SSR of December 17, 1924 on the organization of its own film production and the creation of a special management “Belgoskino” (in the city of Minsk the building “Belgoskino”, which has not survived to this day, was located at the intersection of Karl Marx and Lenin streets ^[1] ) first, in the spring of 1925, a cinema laboratory was equipped for the production of newsreels in Minsk, while feature films were shot in 1926-1927 on the basis of Moscow film studios, and only in 1928 in the rented building of the former Crooked Mirror Theater ”On the Griboedov’s channel in Leningrad , the actual Belarusian film studio of feature films“ Soviet Belarus ”was opened (the name“ Soviet Belarus ”was worn from 1928 to 1946) ^[2] , which was there until 1939 and more than 50 feature films were shot there during that period films.

The name “Belarusfilm” was acquired by the film studio only in 1946. Since 1996 - National Film Studio Belarusfilm.

The premiere of “Feel the Natsyyanalniy Films” - the first Belarusian feature film that moviegoers saw - “ Forest Story ” took place in the Minsk cinema “Culture” on December 26, 1926.

In Soviet times, in addition to the adaptation of works by Belarusian writers, the studio created many children's films and films about the war (thanks to which the studio was nicknamed "Partisanfilm" ^[3] ). In addition, for nearly 85 years, thousands of documentaries, popular science and educational films have been released here, and since 1972, more than 125 animated films of various techniques have been released ^[4] .

In the post-Soviet period, joint projects, primarily with Russian directors, became the most important field of activity and the livelihood of the film studio. So, using the material and technical base of the studio and involving its staff, twenty-two Russian films were shot. Such large Russian masters as Nikita Mikhalkov , Dmitry Astrakhan , father and son Todorovsky worked at Belarusfilm. Many eminent filmmakers from Russia prefer to work in Belarus.

Moscow today is a city practically unsuitable for filming. It is slowly becoming unsuitable for life. Starting from traffic jams, monstrous high cost at every step and ending with the simple inability to agree with anyone ... Therefore, more and more filmmakers are leaving for somewhere. Trying to find a place where you can at least move around the city. In this sense, Minsk is still a city very convenient for cinema. It has very good natures, streets, you can find almost everything. There is a Belarusfilm where you can build the scenery. There are people who can be hired, film professionals. There is a good calm, measured atmosphere, without hysteria. You can safely shoot 12-14 hours a day ^[5] .

In 2007, the film studio released seven feature films and five animated films ^[6] and emerged from the crisis, ending the year with a profit ^[7] . Since September 1, 2007, reconstruction has been carried out at the film studio, with the goal of consolidation ^[8] .

The global financial crisis affected the film industry in Russia, which affected the volume of joint projects. Russian scripts ceased to enter the studio, but Belarusian began to arrive. However, the management of the studio categorically does not like their quality: “They are similar to“ Very Russian detective, ““ Hitler Kaput. We will never put such a thing! ” ^[9]

In 2008, the film studio released 34 documentaries, five animated, four television and three full-length films. At the production and technical base of the Belarusfilm film studio in 2008, 25 Russian films and series were shot ^[10] .

In 2014, Belarusian cinema turned 90 years old. The anniversary DVD collection under the general title “The Golden Dozen of Belarusfilm” included twelve iconic Soviet films loved by many generations of viewers ^[11] :

State Border 1981

At the XVIII International Film Festival " Golden Knight ", held in Lipetsk and the cities of the region, the film studio won the largest number of awards among all participants. In total, Belarusians presented the jury with 14 works. According to the results of the festival, the feature film “Cadet” by the Belarusian director Vitaly Dudin won the “ Bronze Knight ” and the prize of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Belarus and Russia for the on-screen embodiment of the theme of the Great Patriotic War. In addition, the young actors Polina Syrkina , Ruslan Chernetskiy and Andrey Senkin received diplomas “For a Bright Debut in the Cinema”. ^[13]
