It is located in the western part of the region, 33 km west of Smolensk , 0.5 km south of the Belarus highway M1 . 1.5 km east of the village is the Velino railway station on the Moscow - Minsk line .
History
During the Great Patriotic War, the village was occupied by Nazi troops in July 1941 , liberated in September 1943 [1] .
