Rioja , or La Rioja ( Spanish: La Rioja , Basque. Errioxa ) is an autonomous community and province in the north of Spain . The capital and largest city is Logrono .

Territory - 5045 km² (16th place). It is the smallest autonomous community in mainland Spain.
History
Until November 1980, the province of La Rioja was called Logrono.
June 9, 1982 the province received the status of an autonomous community .
Demographics
The population is 322,621 people. (17th place according to 2011 ).

The main occupation of the inhabitants of La Rioja is agriculture . It grows tomatoes , peppers , peas , asparagus , various fruits . Particularly distinguished is the cultivation of grapes from which table wines are made . Aro - the main wine region of La Rioja; there are many wineries here.
