It is located in the western part of the region 12 km west of Smolensk , 3 km north of the A141 Orel - Vitebsk highway. 1 km south of the village is the Rakitnaya railway station on the Moscow - Minsk line .
History
During the Great Patriotic War, the village was occupied by Nazi troops in July 1941 , liberated in September 1943 [1] .
