It is located in the southern part of the region, 6 km northwest of Roslavl , 3 km west of the A141 Orel - Vitebsk highway, on the banks of the Oster River. 3 km north-east of the village is the Oster railway station on the Smolensk - Roslavl line .
History
During the Great Patriotic War, the village was occupied by Nazi troops in August 1941 , liberated in September 1943 . [one]
