History

During the Great Patriotic War, the village was occupied by Nazi troops in July 1941 , liberated in September 1943 . [one]

The famous Soviet bicycle racer Sergey Tereshchenkov , honored master of sports, two-time world champion on the track in the team pursuit race was born and spent his childhood in Olsha. Remembering the occupation, he noted that the village was completely burned by the Germans during the retreat:

I remember how the Germans came to us. It was in the month of August. A dog was shot in the village, several chickens. Then the soldiers lived in our house. And we had a stove-potbelly stove, and they asked to light it - they cooked the terunks, you know, they make potatoes ... And suddenly they found that the knife was gone. We decided that it was my older brother who stole. He took refuge in a barn, and they shot him through the door, but, thank God, they didn’t get there ... And then, when they raked the coals, they found this knife, and they probably threw it there by mistake. Mother went to the headquarters, said something there, and these Germans were removed from us ... And then, when we found out that the Germans were retreating, we all hid in the forest, we were afraid. And indeed, the whole village was burned to the ground during the retreat, so that we were left homeless ...
