It is located in the northern part of the region 15 km north-east of the Dukhovshchina , 10 km east of the P136 Smolensk - Nelidovo highway, on the banks of the Velenia river. 30 km southeast of the village is the Yartsevo railway station on the Moscow - Minsk line .
The poet Dmitry Dvoretsky was born in the village.
History
During the Great Patriotic War, the village was occupied by Nazi troops in July 1941 , liberated in September 1943 . [one]
