Below is a list of coaches who have won the UEFA Cup and UEFA Europa League
The UEFA Cup is a European football competition that was held from 1972 to 2009 (since 2010 the tournament has been held in a new format called the UEFA Europa League ). The first coach to win the UEFA Cup was Englishman Bill Nicholson , who led Tottenham Hotspur to victory in the finals of the first ever UEFA Cup draw , defeating Wolverhampton Wanderers in the English derby. The first 25 years, the finals took place in two rounds at the finalists' home stadiums. In 1998 , the Internazionale Milan under the leadership of Luigi Simoni defeated the Roman Lazio in the first single-match final in the history of the competition, held at the Parc des Princes stadium in Paris .
Seven head coaches managed to win the UEFA Cup more than once. Three-time winner Giovanni Trapattoni led Juventus to victory in 1977, Inter in 1991 and again Juventus in 1993 . In 2014-2016, Unai Emery led Sevilla to victory three times in a row, setting a record for the number of consecutive wins. Luis Molovni won two consecutive victories with Real Madrid in 1985 and 1986 . Juande Ramos achieved the same result with Sevilla in 2006 and 2007 . In 2013, Rafael Benitez led the London Chelsea to victory, adding a second title after his victory with Valencia in 2004. Jose Mourinho won the tournament twice: in 2003 with Porto and in 2017 with Manchester United . The seventh coach to win this tournament twice was Diego Simeone . He led Atletico Madrid to two victories in the Europa League in 2012 and in 2018, defeating opponents twice in the finals with a score of 3: 0.
Most victories have been achieved by Spanish coaches.
Five coaches won the title with clubs from other countries. One of these five, Romanian Mircea Lucescu , Shakhtar head coach, is the last head coach in history to win the UEFA Cup.
Since the 2009/10 season, the UEFA Cup has acquired a new format and received a new name - the UEFA Europa League . The first winner of the tournament was Atletico Madrid and its head coach Kike Sanchez Flores .
