Located in the northwestern part of the region, 26 km northeast of Demidov , 30 km east of the P133 Smolensk- Nevel highway, on the bank of the Thorinka river. The railway station Rakitnaya on the Moscow - Minsk line is located 56 km south of the village.

Hero of the Soviet Union Dmitry Kuznetsov was born in the village.

History

During the Great Patriotic War, the village was occupied by Hitler's troops in July 1941 , liberated in September 1943 . [one]
