Story
1885 year. Two cowboys, Gil Carter and Art Croft, drive through a town in Nevada and, together with the rest of the residents, find out that Larry Kincaid, respected by everyone, has been killed on his ranch. Residents led by Major Tatley set off in search of killers. In the forest, in the Oaks Bow Gorge, they find three people who bought cattle from Kincaid. They do not have an account for the purchase of livestock, in addition, one of the three find a Kincaid revolver. In the morning, after much debate, all three are hanged. Only seven people oppose the Lynch trial . When the vigilantees return, they meet a sheriff who says Kincaid is alive and the person who shot him is already arrested.

Recognition and Rewards
Nominated for an Oscar as the best film . In 1998, it was included in the National Register of Films of the Library of Congress .
Facts
- William Wellman loved the novel The Occasion at the Oaks Bow, and for a long time nurtured the idea of its adaptation, but the copyright holders insisted that he put in any role for May West , which Wellman thought was ridiculous. In the end, Wellman himself bought the rights to the novel in order to shoot as he saw fit.
- The last film nominated for an Oscar for the best film and did not receive other nominations.
- Henry Fonda was mostly dissatisfied with the quality of the films he was supposed to film under a contract with 20th Century Fox. The Case at Oaks Bow is one of two films of the time, on which he worked enthusiastically. The second was the " Bunches of Wrath ."
- Henry Fonda, who had a respite, immediately after filming went to serve in the Navy.
