The Bessarabia Governorate [1] is an administrative-territorial unit formed by the Romanian authorities in the territory of the occupied Moldavian SSR and the Akkerman region during World War II . The main city is Chisinau . The governor of Bessarabia became K. Voiculescu . Bessarabian governorship was formed in the summer of 1941 ; de facto liquidated by Soviet troops in 1944 during the Yassy-Chisinau operation .
Governorship was divided into the following counties : Akkerman (center in Chetatya-Albe , modern Belgorod-Dniester ), Balti (center in Balti ), Kagulsky (center - Cahul ), Kiliysky (center - Kiliya ), Soroki (center - Soroki ), Izmail (center - Izmail ), Tigina (center - Bender ) and Lapushna (center in Chisinau ) [2] . Each of the states was divided into plazas . The prefects ruled the counties, they were replaced by sub-prefects, the priors were the leaders. The settlements that were part of the place were headed by mayors . Such a system of governing governorship was temporary.
On the territory of Bessarabia camps for Soviet prisoners of war were set up, including in Balti and Bolgrad [3] .
