Lihu ( French: Lihou ) is an island (38.5 acres , 15.6 hectares ) in the English Channel , part of the Channel Islands , west of Guernsey , the British crown possession of Guernsey .

Lihu Island on a different scale
Like many other Channel Islands, the name contains the Norman suffix -hou of Old Icelandic origin.
The house on Lihu Island was used as a target for artillery firing by the Third Reich during the occupation of the Channel Islands during World War II . Now the house is rebuilt and used as a school. Also, before the invasion, the island had an iodine factory destroyed by the Germans.
