Biography
In 587, the Vascons captured the valleys of the Adur and Garonne rivers. But in 602, the kings of Australia Theodebert II and Burgundy Theodoric II were able to break the Vascons. To manage this territory, they formed the Duchy of Vasconia, to be governed by the Duke of Genial (d. C. 626). [one]
The genial, apparently, was a Frank or a Gallo-Roman . Very little is known about his rule. The territory of the duchy, which came under the control of Zhenial in 602, actually included the lands around the Garonne River, and the Adur valley, apparently, remained under the control of the Vascons. The dukes of Vasconia were formally subordinate to the dukes of Toulouse .
During the reign of the first dukes, the Vascons often rebelled. In the years 610 and 612, the Visigoth kings Gundemar and Sisebut organized campaigns against the Vascons. After the Vascons attacked the Ebro Valley in 621, the Visigoth King Svintila defeated them and forced them to build a city (or fortress) called Ologicus, in which the Visigoth garrison was placed.
