Biography
Born in the city of Kasimov, Ryazan province , February 17, 1924.
After graduating from eight grades of the school, he worked as a team leader at the Red Textile Factory.
In 1940 he joined the ranks of the Red Army . In 1941 he entered the Ryazan Military Infantry School , however, in connection with the outbreak of World War II in December 1941, he was in the ranks of the army. In 1942 he graduated from the Moscow Military Infantry School .
As the company commander of the 520th Infantry Regiment (167th Infantry Division, 38th Army , 1st Ukrainian Front ) with the rank of senior lieutenant, on the night of September 26, 1943, forced the Dnieper to the south-east of the village of Vyshgorod near Kiev and, capturing the bridgehead, held him until reinforcements arrived. In the same year, in the battles on the Kiev- Zhytomyr highway, which took place from November 4 to 6, he replaced the gunner from the dead gun crew, knocking down seven tanks. January 10, 1944 he was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union .
In 1946 he graduated from advanced training courses for officers . Member of the CPSU since 1952. He served as commander of a motorized rifle battalion in the Moscow military district.
Since 1956, captain A.P. Petropavlov is in stock. He graduated from the Polytechnic. He lived in Ryazan. He worked as a shift foreman at the Ryazan Instrument Factory, then at the Red Banner factory.
He died on December 18, 1974, was buried in Ryazan .
Memory
- In Ryazan, on the house where Petropavlov lived, on August 17, 2007 a memorial plaque was opened.
Rewards
- By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of January 10, 1944, for the exemplary performance of command missions on the front of the struggle against Nazi invaders and the courage and heroism shown to this, Lieutenant Petropavlov Alexei Petrovich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin (No. 16587) and Gold Star medals (No. 2775).
