Early History
According to the central historical archive of Moscow, the first wooden church, in the name of the holy great martyr Dimitry of Solunsky, was built in the village of Shchitnikovo in the Moscow district in 1766 . [2]
In 1875, Mikhail Grigorievich Borodin, the church elder and the Moscow merchant of the first guild, Metropolitan Innocent of Moscow and Kolomna gave permission for the construction of a new stone church. According to the project of architect P. Petrov, two new thrones were added in the new church: the right - in the name of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God and the left - in the name of St. Michael , the first Metropolitan of Kiev . After the consecration of the new temple, the old one was destroyed.
Soviet period
In 1938 the temple was closed. By the eightieth anniversary of Moscow, the temple was reconstructed as a club of the Eastern Water Station. At the site of a nearby cemetery, a park was organized [2] .
Temple Rebirth
The revival of the parish can be considered the creation in 1991 of an initiative group of believers from the village. The community received official rights (registered) on November 8, 1991 , on the day of memory of the Holy Great Martyr Demetrius of Solunsky. A year later, in the former clergy house, services began to take place. On April 7, 1993 , on the feast of the Annunciation , the Minister of the Government of Moscow A. S. Matrosov decided to build a new church at the expense of Mosvodokanal .
Based on the surviving drawings of the 19th century, the architect O. I. Zhurin created the design of a new temple. The construction of the temple lasted about a year. November 8, 1996 a new church was opened for parishioners. [2]
