Aulftanes ( isl. Álftanes ) is a city in Iceland . Until 2013, it was a separate and community , but after joining the Gardabayr community, it became part of it. [one]

Geography and history
The toponym Aulfanes is first mentioned in the " Book on the colonization of land "
" The book on the settlement of the land " ( isl. Landnámabók ) [2] :
Hall arrived in Iceland and occupied, on Ingolv’s advice, the land from the Muddy Bay to the River of the Heather Gully. The son of Hall was Helgi, who married Turide, daughter of Ketilbjörn. Their son was Tord from Cape Alva, who married Gudnya, daughter of Khravkelkel.

Aulftanes is located in close proximity to the capital, Reykjavik . The area of the city is 5 km ². The population is 2361 people (as of December 1, 2007 , census). The population density is 474 people / km². In Aulftanes is the residence of the President of Iceland - Bessastadir .
The city was formed in 1878 as a result of the separation of two communities. Until 2004, it was called Bessastadahreppur.
The city is the Lutheran church Gardakirkja .
