The verb of a slave is the door of Petrov: food and you are a disciple of this man? Verb he: not.
Dicit ergo Petro ancilla ostiaria numquid et tu ex discipulis es hominis istius dicit ille non sum
The servant of the servant is an unnamed character in the New Testament ( John 18:17 ), the slave-doorkeeper of the high priest Anna , whose words pushed the Apostle Peter to renounce Jesus Christ for the sake of heating by the fire (the first of his three denials).
| Jesus was followed by Simon Peter and another disciple; But this disciple was familiar to the high priest, and entered with Jesus into the court of the high priest. And Peter stood outside the door. Then another disciple, who was familiar to the high priest, went out and said to the doorkeeper, and introduced Peter. Then the servant of the servant says to Peter: are you not one of the disciples of this man? He said no. Meanwhile, the slaves and ministers, lighting a fire, because it was cold, stood and warmed themselves. Peter also stood with them and warmed himself. ( John 18: 15-18 ) |
She is mentioned in the other three gospels as “one servant of the [high priest]” ( Matt. 26:69 [1] ; Mark 14:66 [2] ; Luke 22:56 [3] ).
Since she persuaded Peter to renounce the Teacher in the same way that Eva persuaded Adam to try the forbidden fruit , in Western patristics this character becomes one of the most popular replacements for Eve [4] . Maxim Tursky , for example, wrote: “Eve led Adam astray; the servant-servant knocked Peter off the path ” [5] .
Theophylact Bulgarian in his interpretations nevertheless writes about her in another way: “A woman asks Peter without impudence, without rudeness, but very meekly. For she did not say: and you are not one of the disciples of this deceiver, but: “This Man”, and these, rather, were words of regretful and heartfelt love for man. She said: “And you are not one of the disciples” because John was inside the courtyard. This woman spoke so meekly, but he didn’t notice any of this, he also ignored Christ’s prediction ” [6] .
