Biography
Ruben Moran spent almost his entire career as part of a club, Cerro, which makes him one of the most revered football players in Cerro history. In 1960, when Moran was finishing his career, the club managed to take second place in the Uruguayan championship - before that, all the time of Moran’s career, only Peñarol and Nacional always invaded the first two lines of the championship. In 1954 he played for Defensor.
Moran joined the Uruguayan national team shortly before the 1950 World Cup . Ruben was a young player and until the decisive game against Brazil ( Maracanaso ) sat in reserve. However, coach Juan Lopez had to replace the left forward striker Vidal , who was injured. It was a risky move, since Moran was not yet 20 years old.
So Lopez describes this situation:
Before the finale, it was the most difficult for me to tell Ernesto that he would not play. Vidal did not want to miss the final. I saw that he was upset, but avoided the explanation, leaving him to survive all alone. He subsequently agreed with my decision.
Ruben Moran played in a decisive game with dignity and contributed to the victory of the national team of Uruguay (2: 1).
