Biography

Grigory Karapetovich Bagyan was born in 1912 into an Armenian peasant family in the village of Kushchi, Elizabethpol province , the Russian Empire (now the village of Kushchinsky in the Dashkesan region of Azerbaijan ). In the pre-war period, he worked as a builder, history teacher, and school principal.

Since February 1941 - in the Red Army. With the outbreak of World War II involved in battles with the aggressor. In battles with Nazi invaders as deputy political officer of the 47th Guards Rifle Regiment of the 15th Guards Rifle Division of the 13th Army of the Belorussian Front [1] he showed courage, ingenuity and exemplary military training, and for the courage shown in defensive battles under Stalingrad , was awarded the Order of the Red Star , and in May 1943 the headquarters was sent to military training courses " Shot ", after which he went on promotion and was transferred to another military unit.

In April 1945, Lt. Col. Grigory Bagyan commanded the 71st Rifle Regiment of the 1st Guards Army of the 4th Ukrainian Front . South of the city of Ratibor ( Silesia , now Poland ), the regiment broke through the enemy’s defenses near the village of Rogow , immediately crossed the Oder River south of the city and started a battle for the expansion of the bridgehead on the south bank. For carrying out this operation, Grigory Bagyan was presented for awarding the honorary title of Hero of the Soviet Union .

In total, during the battles of the Great Patriotic War, Grigory Bagyan took part in the battles for Ukraine , the Caucasus , Poland and Czechoslovakia .

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of June 29, 1945, for the exemplary fulfillment of command assignments and the courage and heroism shown in battles with Nazi invaders, Lieutenant Colonel Grigory Karapetovich Bagyan was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal (No. 7597) ) [2] .

After the end of World War II, G. K. Bagyan entered the Frunze Academy and in 1948 graduated with honors. In 1955, after graduating from the General Staff Academy, Grigory Bagyan was awarded the rank of colonel . In 1963 he was awarded the title of Major General [3] .

Until the end of his days, G.K. Bagyan served in the ranks of the Armed Forces of the USSR, was the division commander, then he held the post of deputy commander of the troops of the Siberian Military District .

Grigory Karapetovich Bagyan suddenly died on October 25, 1965 . He was buried in Yerevan .
