The Order of Military Merit is a state award of the Russian Federation . The order is awarded to servicemen for exemplary performance of military duty, for ensuring the defense capability of the Russian Federation, for bravery and courage. One of the requirements for the awarded is conscientious service for at least 20 years (until 2010 - at least 10 years).

Statute of the Order
1. The order "For Military Merit" is awarded to military personnel from among the officers:
- for exemplary performance of official duties and achievement of high combat training of servicemen of subordinate units, units, formations;
- for high combat readiness of troops and ensuring the defense capability of the Russian Federation;
- for high personal indicators in official activity and professional training, courage and selflessness shown in the performance of military duty in the course of the performance of combat or combat training tasks;
- for merits in strengthening the military community and military cooperation with foreign states.

2. Awarding of citizens with the order “For Military Merit” is subject to conscientious service for at least 20 calendar years, as well as the presence of a person presented to the order, a medal of the Russian Federation or the honorary title “Honored Military Specialist of the Russian Federation”.
3. The badge of the Order "For Military Merit" is worn on the left side of the chest and, in the presence of other orders of the Russian Federation, is located after the badge of the Order of Courage .
4. For special occasions and possible everyday wear, it is envisaged to wear a miniature copy of the badge of the Order of Military Merit, which is located after the miniature copy of the badge of the Order of Courage.
5. When wearing the uniform of the Order of Military Merit ribbon on uniform, it is placed on the bar after the ribbon of the Order of Courage. [2]
Decree of the President of the Russian Federation dated December 16, 2011 No. 1636 [3] in the Statute of the Order amended and supplemented:
1-1. The Order "For Military Merit" is also awarded to employees of the military-industrial complex of the Russian Federation, scientific and research organizations, and government bodies:
- for merits in the development, production and commissioning of modern military equipment and weapons;
- for his personal contribution to the implementation of state military policy, the development of military science, strengthening the country's defense capabilities and promoting interstate military-technical cooperation.
1-2. The Order “For Military Merit” may be awarded to foreign nationals from among the military personnel of the armed forces of foreign states - allies for their merits in strengthening the military community, military cooperation with the Russian Federation and practicing joint military maneuvers during military exercises.
2. Awarding of the servicemen of the Russian Federation with the Order For Military Merit is subject to, as a rule, conscientious service for at least 20 calendar years and the availability of other state and departmental awards.
6. On civilian clothes, a ribbon of the order "For Military Merit" is worn in the form of a socket, which is located on the left side of the chest.
On September 15, 2018, paragraph 2 1 was added to the statute: the award for the Order of Military Merit can be performed posthumously [4] .
Description
Badge of the Order of Military Merit of silver with enamel. It is an eight-pointed star, the diagonal rays of which form pentagons, covered with enamel colors of the State flag of the Russian Federation. On the central medallion, in a circle, there is a wreath of oak and laurel branches and a relief inscription: “For military merits”. In the center of the medallion is a relief image of the State Emblem of the Russian Federation. The diameter of the badge is 40 mm. On the back of the sign is the order number.
The badge of the order with the help of an eye and a ring is connected to a pentagonal block, covered with a silk moire ribbon of blue color with a red stripe in the center between two white stripes. The width of the tape is 24 mm, the width of the red strip is 5 mm, the width of the white stripes is 2 mm. [2]

Cavaliers
The first decree on awarding the Order of Military Merit was signed on December 31, 1994 , when the first 18 military personnel were awarded with him for performing special tasks in Chechnya . The badge of the Order No. 1 was awarded to Lieutenant General A. A. Romanov, Commander of the United Group of Federal Forces in Chechnya.
