Description
The red-winged lentil is a large finch (30 - 45 grams ), with a thick conical beak, long wings and a short tail with a notch. The general color of the top is brownish-buffy, the bottom is white with a pinkish coating, on the black wing there is a reddish-pink “mirror”. The female differs from the male in the absence of a “cap” on the head. On earth it seems heavy and slow, in flight - swift.
Habitat
It lives in mountain forests, and in particular in the mountainous regions of North Africa , Western and Central Asia .
Nests
In 1961, the world's first nest with masonry was found in the Western Tien Shan . Nests - under stones or inside a pillow-shaped high-mountain prickly sainfoin. A female of 4 to 6 pale blue eggs incubates a clutch of 4 blue pale eggs. In the early days, she heats the chicks, and the male carries food. Chicks leave the nest on day 16.
