Biography
He was a pupil and follower of his father, but was under his excessive influence. Thanks to a happy occasion, he won a high position and glory, becoming in 1746 the first artist of the king and the head of the Academy of Arts. He is the author of many paintings, among which the most famous are "Christ before Pilate at the Filipinos" and "Victim of Iphigenia." He also created a huge number of sketches for wall painting and burlesques, some of which are caricatures of Don Quixote.
Charles Kuapel was a mannerist and used a daring disharmonious color. He also had a talent for poetry.
He engraved a large number of his works, which gave great pleasure to the public of that time. Other carvers also illustrated his paintings: Dreve - “Portrait of Adrienne Lecouvreur”. In his own engravings depict ballerinas, maids and shepherds. Even a cat could become an object for an image (“A newborn kitten and a lady sad because of a cat’s disease”, “A cat on a tombstone” , etc.). In addition, he was engaged in the depiction of saints.
In addition to painting, Kuapel wrote about forty plays between 1717 and 1747. Only Les Folies de Cardenio (1720) was published. In 1721, he was played at the Tuileries Palace [3] .
