Corinthians won their 4th championship title, in a bitter struggle, managed to get around International .

The championship was overshadowed by a referee scandal (“The Mafia of Whistlers”), as a result of which several judges were disqualified for communications with the mafia and underground bookmakers, and many matches served by Edilson Pereira di Carvalho were replayed. If it were not for the replay, the future title of the Internacional 2006 Libertadores Cup winner would mathematically go to the champion.
