Val Antonina ("Wall Antonina"; English Antonine Wall , lat. Vallum Antonini ) - a fortification of stone and peat, built by the Roman Empire in 142-154. under Emperor Antoninus Pie across modern Scotland (at the latitude of Edinburgh and Glasgow ) by troops under the command of Quintus Lolly Urbika. It is located 160 km north of the previously constructed Val Hadrian . Length - 63 km, width - 5 m, height - 3-4 m. There were 26 forts on the rampart. In 160, the Romans left the wall. In 208, the shaft of Antoninus, by decree of the emperor Septimius Severus, was again occupied by the Romans. The soldiers of Septimius Severus restored part of the rampart by constructing the so-called Seversky walls, but they did not last long. A few years later, the rampart was again abandoned by the Romans. Winston Churchill in his book Birth of Britain indicates another date for the final abandonment of the rampart - 186 .
