He studied singing with Pietro Morandi in Senigallia , where he made his stage debut at the age of 13, then improved in Florence . In 1784 Bassi was admitted to the Bondini opera company in Prague, and in 1786 he sang the role of Count Almaviva at the Prague premiere of Mozart ’s opera “ Figaro 's Wedding ”. A year later, Bassi appeared in the title role in the premiere of the opera Don Giovanni , and later on he repeatedly performed the roles in Mozart operas. He soon moved to Leipzig, where he played Papageno in the Magic Flute in 1793. His voice began to weaken, but his acting talents kept him popular and in demand for a few more years. He continued to perform in Vienna and Italy, primarily devoting himself to sacred music. In 1806, Bassi left Prague for Vienna , where he lived under the patronage of Prince Lobkowitz, occasionally performing in opera. From 1815 until his death he was director of the Italian opera company in Dresden. In recent years, he did not go on the opera stage, he sang mainly in oratorios .
