X Window System Display Manager

XDM Display Manager

The Display Manager X Window System ( English X Display Manager ) - a program that allows you to start a session on XServer, locally or remotely. It is part of the X Window System .

The display manager allows the user to log in with their account. The session opens when the user enters the correct combination of username and password.

When the display manager is launched on the user's computer, it starts the X server before presenting the user with an input. In essence, this is an implementation of the init , getty, and login functionality for X.
