Warner Leroy Baxter ( Eng. Warner Leroy Baxter , March 29, 1889 - May 7, 1951) was an American actor, whose career peak was in the period from 1910s to 1940s. Best known for his role as baby Tsisko in the movie “ In Old Arizona ” (1928), for which he won the Oscar for Best Actor , at the 2nd Academy Award Ceremony . He often played licentious, charismatic, Latin types in gangster westerns, and also played baby Tsisko and other similar characters during the 1930s, but he had many other roles throughout his career.

Baxter began his career with silent films , the most notable were his works in the films The Great Gatsby (1926) and The Awful Truth (1925). The most famous roles of Baxter in sound films were “In Old Arizona” (1928), “ 42nd Street ” (1933), “ Slave Ship ” (1937), “ Kidnapped ” (1938), and in the charitable short film “ Stolen Jewels ” (1931). In the 1940s, he was known in the permanent role of Dr. Robert Ordway, in the film " Doctor 's Crime ".
For his contribution to the film industry, Baxter has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame .

Early life
Baxter was born in Columbus, Ohio , in the family of Edwin F. Baxter (1867–1889) and Jane Barrett (1869–1962), Warner, was only 5 months old when his father died.
Baxter's mother, with her son, moved in with her brother, who lived in Columbus. Later they moved to New York, where Baxter was active in drama, participating in school plays and attending performances. In 1898 he moved to San Francisco, where he graduated from Polytechnic High School. After the earthquake in 1906 , Baxter lived with his mother in the Golden Gate Park for 8 days, and then they went with their friends to live in Alameda for three months. In 1908, they returned to Columbus. Where at the beginning, Baxter was engaged in selling agricultural tools, and then, for 4 months, he worked as a partner with Dorothy Shoemaker, in Vaudeville Benjadamin Keita .
Movie career
Baxter's acting career began in 1914 with a cameo role in the film “His own money”. He played his first starring role in the film “ Protected Daughters ” (1921), and during the 1920s he starred in 48 films. His most famous roles in silent films were in The Great Gatsby (1926), Aloma of the Southern Seas (1926), as a dancer's love interest, played by Gilda Gray , and as an alcoholic doctor in the film West of Zanzibar . (1928), where Lon Cheney also starred.
The most famous main role of Buster was the role of the baby Cisco in " In Old Arizona " (1928). The first sound western for which he received the Oscar for the best male role . He also starred in films such as 42nd Street (1933), Grand Canary (1934), Broadway Bill (1934) and Kidnapped (1938).
By 1936, Baxter was the highest paid actor in Hollywood , but by 1943 he gradually shifted to roles in films of category “B” . In her entire career since the 1914s, from the 1950s, she starred in more than a hundred films, half of which were lost.
Personal life
In 1911, Warner Baxter married Viola Caldwell, and soon after, they split up, but were officially divorced in 1913. In 1918, Baxter re-married actress Winifred Bryson, they remained married until his death in 1951.
He was a close friend of William Powell , with whom he starred in three films, and was also with him when, in 1937, Jean Harlow died, with whom Powell maintained a close relationship.
When Baxter was not filmed, he was an inventor, and in 1935 created a searchlight for revolvers, which allowed the shooter to see the target more clearly at night. He also developed a radio communication device that allowed emergency teams to change motion signals from two units, providing them with a safe passage through intersections. And he himself financed the installation of this device, at the intersection of Beverly Hills in 1940.
Death
Baxter suffered from arthritis for several years, and in 1951 he underwent a lobotomy procedure, which he hoped would ease his pain. But on May 7, 1951, Warner Baxter died of pneumonia , at the age of 62, and was buried in Forest Lawn , Glendale (California) . He was survived by his second wife and his mother.
Memory
Baxter has her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame ; she is on Hollywood Boulevard , her number is 6284. The star-laying ceremony took place on February 8, 1960.
