- Canadian coach Don Cherry spoke about the Soviet team: βThis is the best Russian team I have ever seen. They are better than before because they are younger. "They play with the excitement that happens to hockey players playing in the Stanley Cup finals!"
- The Swedish World Cup was the last for several veteran hockey players.
