Constants Ildefons Galčinsky [1] ( Galchinsky ; Polish. Konstanty Ildefons Gałczyński , January 23, 1905 , Warsaw - December 6, 1953 , ibid.) - Polish poet, translator and playwright. One of the largest national lyrics of the 20th century.

Biography

With the outbreak of World War I, the family moved to Moscow ( 1914 - 1918 ), where Galchinsky entered the Polish school. After returning to Warsaw, he studied classical and English philology at the University of Warsaw, defended a diploma in the work of a nonexistent English poet of the 19th century. Morris Gordon Cheats (all his life he was distinguished by extreme artistry, a penchant for masquerade, practical jokes and pseudonyms). Debuted in 1923 . He was a member of the Quadriga group, belonged to the capital's bohemia . In 1930 he married, lived with his wife in Berlin ( 1931 - 1933 ), then in Vilna ( 1934 - 1936 ), the city where the poet’s daughter was born and which left a deep mark in his lyrics. He got close to the nationalist movement, published in the right-wing journal Prosto z mostu . Mobilized after the invasion of Poland , he fell into Soviet and then German captivity, and visited many camps. After the war he lived in Brussels and Paris , returned to Poland in 1946 . Published in popular magazines Przekrój , Tygodnik Powszechny . Subsequently, he became one of the mouthpieces of the official socialist regime in Poland, spoke in poetry with sharp attacks on Cheslav Milos ("The Poem about the Traitor"), responded with a panegyric to the death of Stalin [2] . In parallel, he wrote piercing lyric poems and brilliant satirical miniatures for the Green Goose Theater, collaborated with the Krakow Cabaret Seven Cats . In 1950, he was subjected to devastating criticism as a representative and singer of the petty bourgeoisie. Translated by Shakespeare , Schiller .

Died after a third heart attack . He was buried at the Military Ponzki cemetery.

Memory

The image of the poet is presented in literature in the image of Delta, or Troubadour in the essay-treatise by Milos A Enslaved Mind (1953).

Many of Galchinsky’s poems were put to music (among others - Grazhina Batsevich ), songs on his words were performed by Marylya Rodovich , Marek Grechuta , Anna German and many other Polish singers.

Since 1998, in Szczecin , a poetry biennale named after Galchinsky has been held. Since 2007, the Green Goose Fund named after the poet has been operating in Warsaw. Several dozen schools in Poland are named after him.
