The mound was built gradually and was completed at various periods:

  • about 4500 BC e. - Three small cairns over several funerary pits, where two skeletons of bulls, apparently sacrificed, were discovered.
  • about 4200 BC e. - A small burial chamber surrounded by a round cairn . This whole structure is combined into one whole with the help of a mass of stones laid by the dry masonry method in the form of a trapezoid.
  • about 4000 BC e. - two outbuildings in the north and in the south, consisting of stone walls, on which a mass of gray clay is laid, as a result of which the length of the stone structure increased to 140 meters.

In the 19th century, only the burial chamber, which had been looted earlier, remained from the Er-Grah burial mound. The northern extension used as a quarry has now disappeared.

Despite the careful excavations that Zachary Le Ruzik conducted in 1908, the monument, partially destroyed, covered with vegetation, remained little known until the floor was built near the monument in the 1960s. In 1935, classified as a historical monument [1]

As a result of the excavations of 1991, the area around the mound was cleared and walls folded by the dry masonry method were discovered, which are also gradually cleared. The monument acquired its current appearance as a result of the 1992 restoration.
