After the death of his father ( 1478 ), he could not become king on the throne of Imereti due to the resistance of the opposition-minded princes ( Shervashidze , Dadiani , Gurieli , Gelovani ). This was used by the Kartlian king Constantine II ( 1479 - 1505 ) and captured the throne.
In 1484 he was able to return the royal throne for a while. Only in 1488 he was able to defeat Constantine II, reconciled with the princes, and after that began the struggle for uniting her with Kartli .
In 1509, Gori took and extended his power to the northwest of Kartli. But the dream of reuniting Kartli and Imereti remained unfulfilled due to the invasion of the Ottoman conquerors.
In 1483 he married Tamar (d. March 12, 1510 ). Children: Bagrat III, king of Imereti, David (born in 1505 ), Vakhtang (d. Around 1545 ), Khosrov and Elena.
