Features
The supernova was registered [1] by the Japanese amateur astronomer Koichi Itagaki [2] The explosion was a classic moment when a large number of heavy elements accumulated inside a massive star, which led to a catastrophic compression of the core and the ejection of the shell into the outer space.
The event occurred on the periphery of the parent galaxy, in one of its arms . The location is 102 ”east and 22” north of the center of M61 . The distance to it is approximately 52 million St. years old . Interestingly, this is the second supernova after SN 2006ov , discovered by Koichi Itagaki in this galaxy.
