History
The studio’s founder is Yoko Hatta ( Jap. 八 田陽 子 Hatta Yo: ko ), who used to be a color expert at Mushi Production . After she married and moved to Kyoto, she founded a studio in 1981, originally called Kyoto Anime Studio ( Jap Kyo: ime ア ニ ニ メ ス タ ジ :), then later renamed Kyoto Animation. The studio was headed by Yoko’s husband, Hideaki Hatta ( Jap. Глав 田英明 ) .
Initially, the studio for a long time carried out work on the orders of other studios. Only since 2003, she began to release their own anime. Kyoto Animation’s first anime was OVA Munto , released in 2003; That same year, the first TV series, “ Steel Alarms? Fumoff . Further, in 2005, the series Air was released, bringing the studio considerable fame among anime fans.
After that, the studio stopped fulfilling orders from other studios (having transferred them to its subsidiary company, Animation Do ( Japanese. ア ニ メ ー シ ン ド ゥ ウ э ): focusing on releasing their own anime. Air was followed by another series of anime based on Key game plots. This is Kanon (2006), Clannad (2007), Clannad ~ After Story ~ (2008).
In addition, in 2005, the third series from the series “Steel alarm”, “ The Second Raid ”, was released, in 2006 - “ Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya ”, which became the most discussed anime in the first half of the year, and in 2007 - Lucky Star , also become a hit.
For 2009, the release of anime on the Internet manga Tonari no 801-chan was planned, but for various reasons its production was stopped. Instead, in 2009, anime was released on another manga - K-On! , also from the beginning, gained considerable popularity. Also released is the “second season” of the anime “Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya”.

Hyouka began broadcasting on TV in the spring, and Chuunibyou Demo Koi ga Shitai! - in the fall. The second season of this anime was released in early 2014.
In 2013, the anime Tamako Market was released , notable for the fact that it was the first TV series of the studio, filmed on its own script (not counting the 9-episode Munto , which already had a prototype in the form of OVA) [3] . The director of the series was Naoko Yamada , who worked on K-On! [3] . In addition to the Tamako Market , this year the studio released two more animes, both of which were filmed by the Kyoto Animation Award nominees: in the summer, the anime Free was aired ! according to the book “High Speed” by Oji Kouji, in the autumn - Kyoukai no Kanata according to the book of Torii Nagomu.

Eternal Summer , in the fall, the broadcast of the first after Hyouka series, filmed not by its own books or the studio's script, Amagi Brilliant Park , whose foundation was the books of the author of Full Metal Panic Shoji Gato, filmed by the director of the second and third screen versions of his previous books (Fumoff!) and Second Raid ), Yasuhiro Takemoto.
In the spring of 2015, the studio released just one TV series, Hibike! Euphonium , for which shooting Kyoto Animation requested permission from the book publisher itself and in which a lot of time and effort was invested. Also in the spring in movie theaters they rolled the full-length films from Toria Nagomu books - a compilation of the series Kyoukai no Kanata ( Kako-hen ) and its sequel ( Mirai-hen ), and in the winter - the prequel Free! High movie ! Speed! -Free! Starting Days- .
