Biography
Semyon Baghdasaryan was born on October 5 ( September 22 according to the old style) 1913 in the village of Diraklar in a peasant family. He graduated with honors from high school.
In 1935, he was called up for military service in the ranks of the Red Army , of which he was transferred to the reserve in 1938 . After dismissal, he passes exams and enters the courses of the Yerevan Pedagogical Institute , which he brilliantly graduates in 1939 , after which he gets a job and works as a supply manager at one of the factories in Yerevan .
In 1942, in connection with the general mobilization caused by the outbreak of World War II , Semyon Baghdasaryan was again drafted into the Red Army .
Since November 1943, on the battlefields of World War II, with the rank of lieutenant and the post of platoon commander of the 4th Infantry Company of the 400th Infantry Regiment of the 89th Infantry Division of the Primorsky Army of the 4th Ukrainian Front, he freed from the Caucasus to Berlin as part of the division more than 900 settlements, particularly distinguished during the Crimean operation, for which he was later assigned to the highest award of the Soviet Union .
In May 1944, during the offensive of the Soviet troops, Lieutenant Baghdasaryan commanded an assault group whose task was to take the heights of Gornaya, the most important resistance node at the approaches to Sevastopol . On May 9, 1944, a group of grenades destroyed the garrisons of three bunkers, covering the approaches to the enemy bunker. Sneaking up to the pillbox from the rear, the group burst inside and in hand-to-hand combat destroyed the enemy garrison. After the company commander Captain Zurochka died , Baghdasaryan took command. He raised the company to attack and was the first to break into one of the heights, hoisted a red flag there . Encouraged by an example of the courage and heroism of the assault group of Lieutenant Baghdasaryan, neighboring units of the regiment went on the offensive. This broke through the 2nd strongly fortified line of German defense on the outskirts of the city of Sevastopol .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 24, 1945, for the courage, bravery and heroism shown in the struggle against the Nazi invaders, Lieutenant Baghdasaryan Semyon Karapetovich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal (No. 6499) [ 1] .
