Zagdansky, Evgeny Petrovich

Evgeny Petrovich Zagdansky ( Ukrainian: Evgeny Petrovich Zagdansky ; January 7, 1919 , Kiev - September 8, 1997 , Kiev ) - Soviet and Ukrainian screenwriter , editor , film critic . Honored Worker of Culture of Ukraine (1969). One of the founders of the “Kiev school of scientific cinema” in the late 1960s - early 1970s.

Biography and career

Born in the family of a craftsman.

Member of the Great Patriotic War in June 1941, was drafted by Petrovsky RVC of the city of Kiev.

He fought on the North-Western Front, from 02/02/1942 he fought on the Karelian Front, from 04/04/1943 he fought on the Bryansk Front, and later fought on the 1st Belorussian Front. Member of the Battle of Orel-Kursk, the liberation of Warsaw, the assault on Berlin.

Junior lieutenant of justice, head of production of the intelligence department of the headquarters of the 63rd Army. Later, a lieutenant of the administrative service, commandant of the 2nd division of the intelligence department of the headquarters of the 1st Belorussian Front. He finished the war with the rank of senior lieutenant.

He graduated from Taras Shevchenko University of Kyiv (1954). He worked at the Kiev film studio of popular science films "Kievnauchfilm" from 1952 to 1979 . From 1961 he was the chief editor of the studio, until his retirement in 1979.

The author of the science fiction novel “Leap to Immortality” (Molod Publishing House 1960), collections of articles on the scientific film “Films, Images, Formulas” (K., 1971), “From Thought to Image” (K., 1986), “The Cassandra Effect” (K., 1984), numerous articles in collections and periodicals, humorous stories published in the Literary Newspaper. According to the scripts of Yevgeny Zagdansky, more than thirty science-fiction and animated films were delivered.

  • 1974 - Golden Calf Award of Literary Newspaper ( Club of 12 Chairs ).
