Album Information
Rene Angelil, manager Celine Dion (who later became her husband), mortgaged his house in order to create his own record company and release the first recordings of Celine. He decided to release two albums at the same time: La voix du bon Dieu and Céline Dion chante Noël (with Christmas songs).
In the process of recording the album, Celine Dion began a long collaboration with the poet Eddie Marne, who wrote songs for celebrities such as Barbra Streisand , Edith Piaf and Nana Muskuri . He subsequently co-authored and co-produced many of her early francophone recordings. Several songs were written by members of the Dion family: Celine's mother, her brother Jacques, and Celine Dion herself.
The album contains the first three singles of Celine Dion: “Ce n'était qu'un rêve”, “La voix du bon Dieu” and “L'amour viendra” (French-language adaptation of Dario Baldan Bembo’s song “Dolce fiore”), as well as two covers versions: “Tire l'aiguille” (Rene Lebas) and “Les roses blanches” (Berta Silva). The single "Ce n'était qu'un rêve" was also released in France in 1982 and became the first single Celine Dion in this country, but plans to release an album there failed.
Two singles from “La voix du bon Dieu” entered the top 20 Quebec singles chart: “Ce n'était qu'un rêve” (number 14) and “La voix du bon Dieu” (number 11). 30,000 copies of albums were sold in 1981, and it was expected that 125,000 copies would be sold in the next [1] . As a result, “La voix du bon Dieu” sold 100,000 copies [2] .
In 2005, Ce n'était qu'un rêve and La voix du bon Dieu were included in the collection of the best French-language songs Celine Dion On ne change pas .
