Biography

He defended his doctoral dissertations in literature in 1911 and in history in 1913 in order to occupy the post of professor of the Greek language. In 1911 - 1914 He was a scholarship student in Greek philology, the prehistoric period and ancient history in Berlin .

In 1916 - 1939 he was a teacher at the Department of Ancient and Medieval History at the University of Barcelona . In the same period, he served as director of the Archaeological Research Service of the Institute for the Study of Catalonia . In 1916 - 1931 headed the archeology department of the Barcelona Museum, in 1931 - 1933 he was dean of the faculty of philosophy and literature, and in 1933 - 1939 - rector of the University of Barcelona. He served as Justice Advisor to the Catalan government of Lewis Kompanis .

In 1919 and in 1925 , together with the archaeologist Luis Pericot, Garcia studied 3 dolmens found near the city of Roses (180 km from Barcelona ), province of Girona , Spain . During the research, the period of the erection of dolmens (3500-3000 BC) was established. For their characteristic features and appearance, the dolmens were named Creu Cobertella , Del Cap de l'home and Llit de la Generala .

Shortly after the end of the Civil War in Spain , in connection with his participation in the Catalan republican government, he moved to Oxford, then to Mexico, where he also gained fame as a historian and archaeologist. After emigration, he served as professors of various European and Latin American universities. Has been honored with honors and degrees in many countries. He received Mexican citizenship in 1971.

An important contribution of Bosch-Gimpera to historical science is the systematization of information on the prehistoric period of Iberia , research on the Indo-European ancestral homeland , the prehistoric Middle East and pre-Columbian cultures .
