Atena Zion - VII century
Athena Zion - Georgian monastery of Sioni in the village of Ateni (10 km south of Gori ).
History
It was built in the 1st half of the 7th century by the Armenian architect Todosak , modeled on Jvari ( tetraconch ). The inscription of the architect, which says: "I, Todosak, the builder of this holy church," has been preserved on the temple. Other surviving inscriptions show that under the leadership of Todosak several more Armenian stonecutters worked in Athena [1] . The temple was plundered several times by invaders invading the region. The murals of 1080 survived in it, and traces of the fire from the invasion of Shah Abbas I (who lit a fire in the temple) are also visible. At the moment, the temple is operational.
