The city is located on the river Bakyrchay , 26 km from the coast of the Aegean Sea . The region in the west borders Dikili district, in the south - with Aliaga district, in the east - with Kynyk region, in the southeast and east - with Manisa silt , in the north - with Balikesir silt .
History
In antiquity to the north-west of the modern city was located Pergamum , the largest city in the region. In the Roman era, Pergamum reached its peak, inhabited by 150,000 inhabitants [1] .
In 1912 they lived here: the Greeks - 25,277 people, the Turks - 22,735 people, the Armenians - 1,500 people. [2]
