Alexander Ignatievich Zaborovsky ( May 25, 1894 , p. Gorodets of the St. Petersburg province [2] - April 25, 1976 , Moscow ) [3] [4] - Russian and Soviet encyclopedist scientist [2] [5] , doctor physicist mathematical sciences [4] , geophysicist [2] [3] [4] . One of the founders of Russian exploratory geophysics and the corresponding training course in universities of the Soviet Union, in particular, the founder of the Moscow geophysical school [6] . His monograph βGeophysical methods of explorationβ became the first textbook on applied geophysics in the Union [7] .

Biography
In 1913 he graduated from the 11th St. Petersburg gymnasium. In the same year, he entered the Physics and Mathematics Department of St. Petersburg State University , however, due to material difficulties, he completed only four courses [8] . Since 1917, he has been working as a magnetologist at the Compass part of the Main Hydrographic Directorate ; since 1918, he has become the head of the compass part magnetic station.
In 1920, the RSFSR Labor and Defense Council established a Special Commission for the Study of KMA . The work of the commission was to restore the results of the work of the Russian geophysicist E. E. Leist .
In 1919-1926, Zaborovsky, in the direction of the hydrographic part, supervised the magnetometric works [9] on the Kursk Magnetic Anomaly. Together with him, such famous scientists as P. P. Lazarev (general manager), A. D. Arkhangelsky , I. M. Gubkin , O. Yu. Schmidt and others worked at this historical site for exploration geophysics. On the territory of the KMA were the first comprehensive geophysical work was carried out using magnetic and gravity exploration methods. As a result of the activity of this group, significant accumulations of ferruginous quartzites were revealed. The total amount of iron available in the Kursk region, according to the conclusions of the commission for the study of the Kursk magnetic anomaly, exceeds all its reserves available in Europe.
In 1923, Zaborovsky created and reads a course of magnetic exploration at the Moscow Mining Academy [10] .
In 1926, he worked in the field of the theory of refracted Mintrop waves for seismic exploration; the results were published in the Journal of Applied Physics [11] .
At Moscow State University, Alexander Ignatievich has been teaching training courses in exploratory geophysics since 1929, from the moment training began in the field of exploratory geophysics [3] .
In 1930-1954 headed the faculty of geophysics and the department of geophysics of the Moscow State Geological Exploration University created by them [3] .
In 1968-1976 he was a professor, and from 1944 to 1949 and 1954-1968 - Head of the Department of Geophysical Methods, Geological Faculty of Moscow State University [4]
He died on April 25, 1976 in Moscow, was buried at the Kuntsevsky cemetery [8] .
