Lazarus Spengler ( March 13, 1479 , Nuremberg - September 7, 1534 , ibid.) - Secretary of the Nuremberg Council, writer , humanist , one of the patrons of the Reformation in Nuremberg; supporter and follower of the teachings of Luther .

He, however, did not support the radicals, opposed the bloodshed and repeatedly restrained the city authorities of Nuremberg from the cruel reprisals of the insurgents . Spengler was one of Albrecht Dürer 's closest friends, and also Wilibald Pirkheimer's irreconcilable opponent. Relations with the latter were very controversial.
